Service Description:

Apartment building inventory of Wyandotte County, KS as a point feature GIS dataset in ESRI shapefile format in KS N State Plane coordinates using NAD83 datum, in units feet. This dataset encompasses multi-family dwellings generally having a minimum of 8 dwelling units. Both private commercial apartments and public housing are included. Point features were usually digitzed in approximate center of apartment complex or optionally its main structure. Some condominium developments were included if they mimicked the residential density and layout of typical apartment complexes. Dataset started as GIS file from Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) which originated as an InfoUSA product. MARC file was part of a Kansas City regional GIS collection of vulnerable sites used for Homeland Security and other purposes. MARC file had 62 records before GSS updated it--GSS added many more records through research. Apartment locations were compiled and verified from several sources, including ortho photo interpretation, tax roll database records, CAMA records, UG rental licensing database, and online resources. GIS tabular data includes name/address of complex, contact name/phone where available, and x,y coordinates (in KS N State Plane coords). Accompanying this apartment site point feature layer are a grounds polygon layer, apartment land parcels polygon layer, and an apartment building footprints poly layer.

Also included in this dataset are some Kansas City, Kansas Housing Authority scattered housing site locations (duplexes, fourplexes, single family).
