Other citation details: This dataset is an adaption of and complete revision of an original streams dataset (streams_ln) maintained by GeoSpatial Services for many years. The revised/updated dataset, hydro_line_ln, was used to dissolve out permanent stream features only-- resulting in this dataset.
Virtually all features in existing original streams dataset have been redigitized to higher levels of accuracy, completeness, and detail.
Attribution has been added for waterflow type, and line segments now all intersect where they should (node-node) for a continuous drainage network.

Abstract:
Perennial streams in Wyandotte County, KS. This is a linear surface water flowline dataset. In ESRI GIS format in Kansas North State Plane NAD83, units feet, suitable for use at 1:1200 map scale or smaller. This dataset depicts all permanent /major streams as visible from aerial photography or LiDAR imagery. No rivers included. Limited linear feature network information (segment from-to drainage flow directions) is present.. Flow direction is indicated by from-to direction of digitized line segments. Line topology is present with stream segment nodes connecting where intersections should occur. Flowline type is used according to NHD categories, e.g. Stream or River. Named stream segments contain a name in NAME field, e.g. Conner Creek.The corresponding lake_py data layer works with this layer where appropriate.

Purpose: To serve as a high resolution thematic hydrology reference layer in support of Unified Government's Enterprise GIS (E-GIS) system. It is used to display perennial streams/creeks cartographically in GIS applications. Not intended for use in detailed site planning. Suitable for map scales up to 1:1200 scale. Can be used in conjunction with associated GSS GIS dataset lake_py (lakes and ponds-- waterbody polygon features).

Measure description: Aerial Orthophotography with horizontal accuracy meeting National Map Accuracy Standards was used as reference base layer to digitize vectors representing the surface water drainage pattern. Actual line feature segment was determined to be the drainage channel as photo interpretated by digitizing technician. In some case, oblique aerial imagery was used to help establish more exact alignment. Intent was to digitize center of stream channel, not bank-full width. Since channels were interpretated from aerial imagery some errors in placement are present. Positioning is more prone to error in densely wooded areas (instream cover) that interfered with successful photo intrepretation of water features.
