Every two years, three members are elected for four-year terms. The BPU is a public utility owned by the Unified Government of Kansas City, KS/Wyandotte County, KS. The utility provides electric transmission and distribution services to 65,000 customers and water distribution services to 51,000 customers in the Kansas City metropolitan area.
